H-E-B Helps Sheltering Arms Provide Hurricane Preparedness Kits to Its Elderly Clients

Volunteers pack kits at H-E-B Pearland store on Friday, August 2

HOUSTON (November 12, 2009) . . . Sheltering Arms Senior Services, a local nonprofit serving older adults, is partnering with H-E-B to provide more than 350 hurricane preparedness kits to its most isolated, homebound elderly clients. The kits include non-perishable food, battery-powered radios and batteries, and hurricane preparedness information for those with special needs.

Sheltering Arms Senior Services is providing these kits to its at-risk elderly clients who are both physically and financially unable to prepare their own, and who need updated information on disaster planning.

Volunteers from CenterPoint Energy, H-E-B, KBR and Sheltering Arms Senior Services will help package the kits on Friday, August 28 at the H-E-B on 2805 Business Center Drive in Pearland. The organizations will then deliver the kits to clients’ homes.

Sheltering Arms Senior Services will also provide kits to two other United Way-affiliated nonprofits, San Jose Clinic and the Jewish Community Center, for their at-risk senior clients.
